Mash-up (2018), performance, video projection, screen printed coloured glass, deep-fat fryer, potatoes. Excerpt.
Mash-up involves an actress in the setting of a video installation. She rhythmically makes her way through a monologue premised on the style of street rap-battles, a type of rapping that often includes brash bragging and comical insults. The figure battles with herself and an anonymous audience. The potato is used as a repetitive motif within the installation and as a prop to be peeled, quartered and diced. Throughout the performance chips are being cooked in a deep-fat fryer, the violent sound quietly amplified through a speaker.
Produced during an artist residency at WORM, Rotterdam.
