Gunk Tact is a performance based on a form of "toasting"—a rhythmic recitation of text over beats in the style of an MC. The piece weaves together a stream of associative thoughts on the qualities of deep-fried bitterballen, evoking the "Friday feeling" typical of the Dutch borrel setting. Wet toilet paper was thrown onto the projected image, creating a layered, textured surface that distorted the video while also referencing the British pub-toilet rituals of my youth.
